After a spell of  weary weather we awoke this morning to a beautiful sunny morning. I still feel too chesty to do any sort of climbing but as we left home our intention was to go to the Lake District for a short walk around Tarn Hows or similar. However as we drove along the promenade at Morecambe we could not see anything of Lakeland across the bay and the weather forecast on Radio Cumbria was for a mainly cloudy and dull day. This made us change plans and we decided on this walk which is fairly local. However by the time we reached Glasson Dock however it had clouded over to leave us with a very dull day which stayed that way until we were driving back home when the blue skies and sun returned.

Route Map

Who would have thought that a little more than 30 minutes ago we had bright blue skies. Here we are looking across the River Lune towards Bazil Point from our parking spot at Glasson.

Sunderland Point from the same place.

Looking over Glasson and the marina towards Clougha Pike as we make our way to Marsh Lane...

...and to the hills of Bowland.

Our way lies to the right along Marsh Lane...

...which continues across the fields towards Crook Farm. It was a tad muddy in places!!

A look back towards the caravan park at Old Glasson.

Crossing Janson Pool which helps drain many of the surrounding fields into the River Lune. Crossing the fields we had spotted a couple of hares, it is after all March, but I wasn't quick enough with the camera.

Approaching Crook Farm.

The dinghy "Seabird" as certainly seen better days. I wonder if it as been washed up here.

Edith trying to avoid the camera at Crook Farm.

Looking up the river towards Sunderland...

...and across to the point.

The upright stone in this and the previous picture are boundary stones.

Abbey Lighthouse Cottage which was once the site of an old lighthouse....

....and the Plover Scar Lighthouse which presumably replaced it.

Eventually we reached the site of the old Cockersand Abbey.

Leaving the Abbey we continued along the Lancashire Coastal Way towards Bank Houses.

Our coffee stop location didn't offer much in the way of views today and was quite brief.

A bit of colour as we make our way back. Unfortunately there was little more to see until....

...just after passing Gardner's Farm...

...when the in the fields we were delighted to see the lambs.

This group however were not keen on us and I assume that showing your group backsides is the Ovine equivalent of our human one or two fingered salute.

Eventually we arrived back at Glasson where the canal towpath still looked as muddy as when we walked it a while back.

More colour!!

Christ Church, Glasson.

Another brief stop where we were joined by this little chappie.

Glasson Marina.

The salt water dock.

And finally....back to the car.
