---------------------------------------------------------------

The morning started dull & grey yet again but this time the forecast was for it to brighten a little later. We decided to do the walk that we had planned for yesterday at Silverdale and shortly after breakfast we set off there.

Our route.

As we walked back through Silverdale it was very busy for a Saturday morning. There was a discount sale of  "Foxy Lady " clothing on at the Gaskell Hall which seemed to be the main attraction.

It wasn't the brightest of mornings as we made our way across the fields towards The Cove but it was fine and maybe it will improve. The low spit of land is Humphrey Head one of AW's Outlying Fells of Lakeland.

Grange and Hampsfell across the bay are partly hidden in the murk.

Could that be some better weather moving in from the south....time will tell.

The Cove at Silverdale. The incoming tide at this point was rushing by as they are quite big ones at the moment.

Down in The Cove and looking back towards Silverdale.

An inquisitive Alpaca looks up at us as we walk up the lane from The Cove.

Cove Cottage.....from here we made our way to Holgates Caravan Park.

Walking up through the park the day started to brighten a bit and strange shapes that I remembered were called shadows started to appear on the ground.

There was even some blue sky which added to the novelty value.

Looking over to Arnside Knott from the top of the caravan park. The Knott was not in our plans today, instead we took a path across the top of the park...

...to enter the woods. The path skirts the top end of the park...

...to eventually reach the stile (l) where the main path continues ahead to Elmslack. We however turned left to pass through the stile (r) into Eaves Wood.

A short climb tool us onto Castlebarrow with hazy views towards Silverdale.

A short walk over fractured limestone...

....soon had us at the Pepperpot. The Pepperpot (originally known as the Pepperbox) is a circular roughstone tower, about twenty feet high with a conical roof. It was built at the instigation of the Hebden family, who then owned Castlebarrow; the builder being a local man by the name of Mr. Bowskill. Its purpose  was to commemorate the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887.

We stayed here a while enjoying our coffee and hoping that the views would clear but on this occasion we were out of luck.

The way from the Pepperpot to the main car park at Eaves Wood but if you have time it is well worth exploring the other paths as the woods are a real gem.

Follow our route and you may see the ruins of a small cottage almost hidden in the saplings.

We are down at the main car park now and from here it is simply a case of crossing the road to take a lane named " The Row ".

Looking over to King William's Hill and Eaves Wood as we walk along The Row.

A look back as we start across the fields back to Silverdale.

We had noticed the lambs in these fields a day or two previously when we went to Arnside to see Barry at the Beach Walk Cafe...

...and now Edith was in her glory. Think this cocky little chappie won the prize for best pose though.

Another look back as we enter the next field after crossing the road.

And there are more!!

Looking up to Castlebarrow and the Pepperpot as we near Silverdale.

And finally....back at Silverdale and the car is nearby.
