---------------------------------------------------------------

On a fine sunny morning we set off for a walk at Silverdale. However once on the promenade at Morecambe we could see that the area was lying on thick cloud. With the forecaster on Radio Cumbria forecasting a dull, grey day we decided to stay where we were and do this short walk instead...at least we would be in the sun.

We would normally do this walk from the doorstep but as we were in the car we left it on the free car park at Half Moon Bay opposite the Half Moon Bay Cafe.

The tide was on its way in as we set off. They are quite high today but fortunately it isn't too windy.

Looking along the shore towards the cliffs.

Our route took us across the fields towards the wall ahead. The land on the other side used to be the Heysham Head Entertainment complex may years ago but is now apart from a piece owned by the National Trust used for private housing.

A look back to the harbour and power stations.

This land, now owned by the National Trust was also once part of the old Heysham Head. It was later a International Go-Kart racetrack.

Where the path splits we took the upper path today. Normally we take the lower but today I want to have a look in Chapel Wood and this way saves climbing.

Having passed through a wall we are now on the Heysham Barrows. Normally we would follow the coastline but a right turn and short climb takes us...

....upwards with a view back to the harbour...

...and into Chapel Wood.

Although only small in size I love this small wood. It used to be carpeted in daffodils may years ago but in recent years there aren't as many.

A bit of care is needed today as the paths are very muddy and slippy in places.

This rock as long puzzled me.

The Bluebells are shooting up fast...

..and some aren't far off flowering.

We left the woods to visit...

St Patrick's Chapel and the rock hewn graves.

There are many other things to interest though...

More graves.

A map of the site.

We them made our way down to St Peter's Church.

We went into the Glebe Garden adjacent to the churchyard and were entertained by this chappie...

...who not satisfied with robbing the birds feeders...

....as also seemed to have set up home inside.

Main Street, Heysham Village as we make our way back.

Looking back to the village as we walk back to Half Moon Bay.

Gone now are the blue skies replaced by grey but for the most we enjoyed the sunshine.

A ship leaves the harbour bound for Ireland.

We meanwhile are bound for here....great food, good value.
