I had finished yesterday's walk feeling tired but OK so with another fine day promised I was away shortly after taking Edith to her brothers for the day. It was a glorious day as I drove towards Kendal and I was hoping for some splendid views but as will be seen things didn't quite turn out as expected.

My route.

It had been a glorious drive to Kendal and I was hoping for some good views. Having parked the car I made my way to the gate leading onto Scout Scar.

A first impression would be that I have struck lucky. Blue skies and a not too bad view of the Whinfell Ridge over Cunswick Fell.

Things are bit hazier to the left with Red Screes and the Kentmere Fells...

....but hopefully it will either burn off or blow away as there is a bit of a breeze.

Even this chirpy chappie was singing the days praises.

It wasn't until I turned southwards to follow the scar edge (here looking backwards) that I realised things weren't quite as good as I first thought.

Away to the west across the Lyth valley Lakeland had virtually disappeared. No Conistons in sight and only those with keen eyesight will make out the very faint outline of the Langdale Pikes about 2.5" in from the right.

However it was a glorious morning and as I passed the mushroom shelter all was well in the authors mind.

The views southwards to Arnside Knott were hazy and hindered a little by the sun...

...so most pictures at this point were taken looking back.

However things were soon to change...

as I approached Barrowfield it quickly started to cloud over from the south...

and within a few minutes it looked quite dull towards Arnside...

...although to my north it was still OK.

However, apart from the missing Coniston Fells it still looked quite good across the Lyth Valley.

At the big cairn I made my way towards the ridge....

....from where the Howgills were still in view.

The low cloud was coming and going and has I made my way towards the summit I was hoping it would clear away.

The summit Trig point and the distant Mushroom shelter.

Looking towards the Howgills.

With time to spare and nobody about to see me make a fool of myself I decided to explore the menu on the camera and found the "timer" setting. Setting it to 10 seconds I gave it a go and behold a result.....don't panic this won't happen too often I don't want to be scaring anybody away.

Playtime over, I started to make my way towards the shelter.

The cloud was thickening at this point with its base just above me...

...although there were odd spots of brightness below in the valley.

Thinking the day wasn't going to improve by this stage I didn't linger at the shelter.

A last view of Cunswick Fell and a touch of blue through the clouds.

And finally....a few minutes later back at the car park and it's back to blue skies.
