I wasn't at all sure whether I would complete this walk today. I have been troubled by a very "tight" chest for a couple of days and also my left ankle was sore after going over on it at Buttermere a couple of days back. However it was a beautiful morning and there were options to cut it short so straight after breakfast we were away to Arnside.

Our route.

The tide had just nicely started to ebb as we parked up near the railway viaduct over the Kent estuary. They are only low tides anyway and will pose us no problems.

Looking over Arnside Pier to Grange over Sands across the estuary and it is a glorious morning.

A look back over the viaduct to Whitbarrow.

Looking down the estuary from near the Coastguard station.

Looking over the estuary to the outlying fell of Hampsfell.

Before too long we arrived at New Barns Bay.

Looking back to Whitbarrow.

Leaving the shore we walked up the lane a few yards to take the path into Copridding Wood which would take us up Arnside Knott.

Looking over to Grange and Hampsfell as we reach the clearing part way up.

Distant Conistons from the same place. There is an opportunity here to escape the rest of the climb to The Knott but my chest wasn't feeling too bad so off we set on the next leg....

...which took us to what I call the twin seats where we stopped for a coffee break and a look down the bay into the sun.

Again from the twin seats looking over to Grange.

After a short break it was only a short walk and climb to the viewpoint, here looking over the woods of Heathwaite to Humphrey Head with the Furness peninsula beyond.

There was some cloud building by now but I think it makes for a better picture than totally blue skies.

The Coniston Fells peek over Newton Fell.

The Eastern and Far Eastern Fells over Whitbarrow.

A final short walk and climb from the viewpoint soon took us to the summit....

....where someone having seen the "timer picture" from Scout Scar insisted on using the trig point as a monopod for a repeat.

The Howgills over Storth and Haverbrack.

From the summit we made our way to the top of Red Hills which is my favourite spot.

Looking over New Barns towards Hampsfell.

A wide view...from Caw to Fairfield.

I can never tire of this view.

Edith was in a hurry now and I hurriedly took this one....can you spot Skiddaw?

These likeable chappies have been in the fields near Black Dyke for a few weeks but are back here for the summer.

And guess who as brought a bag of chopped carrots!

There's some interest now...

...and before long she's surrounded and loving it. There was one funny moment when one of them pinched a plastic bag containing wild bird food from Ediths open rucsac....there followed a chase to retrieve it. Unfortunately through laughing I had a coughing fit and missed the photographic opportunity.

Having at last dragged Edith away from her friends we made our way back down to the shore...

...to make our way back to Arnside..

That's all folks!!
