The blue skies and warm weather have now deserted us but likewise so have the hazy conditions and although there is plenty of cloud about it is still fine and the views are vastly improved. With this in mind it was off to Arnside for our favourite walk and for one of us to meet some friends.

Route

We left the car on the promenade at Arnside near to the railway viaduct...

...from where a short walk took to us onto the pier for a look upriver towards Whitbarrow...

...and downriver towards New Barns and Grange.

Although there was plenty of cloud about it was high and the views were quite good.

We made our way downriver towards New Barns.

New Barns Bay.

Hampsfell from New Barns.

From New Barns our path took us through Copridding Wood...

....and to what I call the twin seats...

....where with the sun hidden behind the clouds I could get a picture looking down the bay towards home...

....and over Warton Crag towards Clougha Pike and Ward's Stone in the Forest of Bowland.

A short walk took us to the viewpoint, here looking over New Barns to Grange and Hampsfell.

A wider view... from Hampsfell to Red Screes.

Despite the lack of sun the views are excellent.

Over Whitbarrow to an array of Eastern and Far Eastern fells.

From the viewpoint we made our way towards the summit before diverting to visit..

...the top of the scree slopes with views towards home and the Fylde coast...

....and over Arnside Tower and farm towards the hills of Bowland.

Ingleborough over Hutton Roof Crags.

After visiting the summit trig point we made our way to Red Hills with views to all of South Lakeland.

Looking over Kents Bank to the Furness Peninsula.

This is such a lovely place, so very special to me. When the pain as finally gone this is where I shall rest so if you come to visit please, please, please take your rubbish back home with you. I don't mind so much picking up the odd discarded crisp packet or toffee paper at the moment but I'll find it damn difficult when I'm blowing about on the wind with them!

Starting our descent and some familiar friends are below us. Edith has now to be almost restrained.  :-)

Chirpy, chirpy cheep cheep.

Under starters orders.....and she's off!!

A Highland Feast!

My personal favourite from this walk.

Even the sun came out for her.

All that was left was a short walk down to the beach and to retrace our steps to Arnside.
