Today's short walk was from the Bull Beck picnic site just north of Caton in the Lune Valley. It followed the course of the River Lune as far as the Waterworks Bridge before using the bridge to cross the river for a walk through the delightful Aughton Woods to see the bluebells for which the woods are known.

We made an early start and arrived at Bull Beck just as the refreshment kiosk was opening.

After crossing the A683 we made our way towards the river with views of Aughton Woods ahead.

The plan was to follow the river to the bridge on the outward leg and then cut back across the fields on the return. However it was such a nice morning we actually followed the river both ways.

Ingleborough ahead.

The Waterworks Bridge across the fields. However we are following a large 180° bend in the river and have a little way to go yet.

Ingleborough again as we reach the bend in the river.

Having followed the bend we are now on the way to the bridge.

The lambs are putting weight on now.

The Waterworks Bridge carries Lakeland's water to the thirsty people of Manchester.

Crossing the river.

Some dogs may not be happy with the walk across on the metal grills.

After crossing the bridge a turn to the right and a few yards of walking brought us to the woods...

Info Board....We are at the Orange circle at the bottom left. Our route will follow the yellow concessionary path up through the woods with a return to the start along the orange public footpath.

A narrow path meanders its way...

...up through the woods which have a good display of bluebells...

Eventually we reached the stile below which led us out into...

...an area of open ground called Lawson's Meadow...

....where a short climb gave us good views across the valley.

After taking in the views for a while we continued along the path back into the woods for the descent.

However many pictures I showed it could never come near the beauty of these old woods.

All to soon we were back at our start point and recrossed the river for our return.

The sun as moved around to the south a little now and doesn't interfere with the pictures.

I don't know where these were on our outwards leg but there were loads.

Noisy Lapwing...

...of which there were scores.
