After our walk up to Rannerdale Knotts we had returned to the car for a short while before walking down to Buttermer village for a pot of tea and a scone at the cafe. Following this we had a walk Buttermere and a visit to St James' Church.
From the car park we walked down into the village passing this row of old cottages.
The Bridge Hotel at Buttermere....The hotel is on a site that as been occupied for over a 1000 years.

The bank was in the village today.
Before we set off around Buttermere itself we stopped at the cafe for a pot of tea and a scone. Some locals were eager to help.
On our way to the waterside now with High Stile and High Crag towering above us.

Haystacks from Peggy's Bridge.
A look back towards Burtness Comb. Not easy to see in this picture but the farmer with help from his dogs was driving the sheep down from the comb on the path below Low Crag.
Meanwhile a small green helicopter that had flow up and down the valley a couple of times disappears over the Scarth Gap Pass.
A close up of the cross on Fleetwith Pike. This is a memorial to a young lady named Fanny Mercer who died in a fall here in the 1880's
After a stop at Gatescarth for an Ice Cream we made our way back towards Buttermere down the opposite side. This shows High Crag and High Stile with Burtness Comb in between.
