A cracking day and a lovely walk. Starting off with a gentle riverside walk along the Dales Way then a steady but gentle climb onto Potter Fell visiting Ghyll Pool, Gurnal Dubbs and Potter Tarn in turn. A gentle descent descent past Side House with a return to Staveley along a quiet road.
Reston Scar from our parking spot at Staveley.
We walked down through the village crossing the River Gowan to pick up the Dales Way
It's a number of years since we walked this section of the Dales Way. Can't remember exactly how many but the the path came out further up the road at Sandyhill then.
Making our way down to the river. The old route used to lead to Sandyhill which can be seen on the left.
Before long we were down by the River Kent
I love this time of year
We followed the river downstream
Until we came to here. I am actually looking back to where we came from.
Leaving the Dales Way to cross the river on this bridge at Hagg Foot to join the Staveley to Garnett Bridge road.
Turning right at the road and after about 100 yards we took the track up onto Potter Fell passing Hundhowe along the way.
Gaining height gave us this magnificent view of the Coniston Fells with Reston Scar on the far right.
Small falls on the beck that comes down from Ghyll Pool and Gurnal Dubbs
Ghyll Pool
After passing Ghyll Pool we kept right to make our way towards Gurnal Dubbs.
Looking back towards Potter Tarn which we would visit next.
But first the delicous Gurnal Dubbs. No visit to Potter Fell would be complete without visiting here.
Making our way down to Potter Tarn
A look back before we start our descent.
Hugill Fell and High Knott
Looking over Reston Scar, Hugill Fell and High Knott to the Coniston Fells
Normally when walking around here we return to Staveley via Frost Hole which is hidden by the trees and walk up the lane in centre picture. Today however I was struggling a bit so we decided to turn left down to Side House.
A delightful small fall at Side House.
Side House
A look back as we walk down the lane to join the Staveley - Garnett Bridge road.
