Another afternoon walk, this time by myself as Edith was laid up with Bronchitis. With not much daylight left it was a quick dash up to Mill Side near Whibarrow for a short walk.

BTW....EDith is OK now....thank you to all those who passed on best wishes either in the forum or by e_mail.

I left the car just off the A590 at Mill Side from where this view of Whitbarrow was taken.

The pond at Mill Side was well frozen.

Beck Head.

From Beck Head I took the bridleway towards Witherslack Hall.

Black Yews Scar and Chapel Head Scar on Whitbarrow.

At Witherslack Hall Farm I took the bridleway into Lawns Wood but then took a branch left after a couple of hundred yards.

Looking back over Witherslack Hall Farm to Whitbarrow. Witherslack Hall is just visible through the trees.

Looking back to Lawns House. I had come through the gate to the left. The track I am on now leads to Witherslack.

Again taken looking back because of the light. After a while the woodland on the right (left in picture) starts to thin out and you can head up to the summit of Yewbarrow. It is access land so just pick your route, it's only about 100 feet up anyway.

But if your lucky, which I wasn't this time, there are some nice views to be had. They were better HERE You can see the outlines of the Fairfield & Red Scree Fells and the dip of the Kirkstone Pass.

Whitbarrow

Looking over Whitbarrow to the Far Eastern Fells

Looking to a distant Ingleborough.

From the summit I headed S'wards to pick up the path down through the woods to Witherslack.

There are a number of paths leading off both ways but just keep straight ahead.

Eventually the path narrows as it descends to meet the road.

A few yards down the road take a path around the back of this outbuilding.

The path will take you past these cottages at High Fell End and down through a field into the woods.

After a short while you will pass through a gate to enter the Latterbarrow Nature Reserve

The path goes through the reserve and exits on the old road near the A590 where you turn left.

There are a number of options for the return to Mill Side from The Derby Arms but the easiest is to use the old road which is very quiet.

Abd if you do you may see this chappie and his mate who disappeared from view. I'm surprised those apples are still there with these two next door.

Walking back the sun was getting low behind me

Almost back to the car.

As I arrived back in Morecambe the sun was just about about to set so I parked the car and had a walk along the Stone Jetty for a coffee.

The Midland Hotel was catching the sun.

Gorgeous colours.
