We were hoping that the weather was going to improve like the weatherman was saying as we left home for the short drive to Crag Foot but this wasn't to be the case. Another short walk with very little climbing but lots of interest for those that look around them.
The car was left near Crag Foot by the outfall from Leighton Moss.
Our first destination was Heald Brow seen across the stream with the dizzy height of 229'.
The Barrow to Lancaster train crossing stream, fortunately on a different bridge to us.
Walking along the causeway towards Heald Brow. We were waylaid at the t'other end by two charming young ladies from the Countryside Ranger Service doing a survey.
Looking across the salt marsh to Jenny Brown's point which would be our return route.
Walking up Heald Brow...very slippy with wet limestone and very wet grass.
A look back to Crag Foot and Warton Crag.
Well that's the climbing over!!....we are now at the top.
The field paths were very claggy after plenty of rain.
Edith makes friends with inquisitive locals.
On our way now to Gibraltar.
There's no rock or apes at this Gibraltar but the there's a Wolf House Gallery and cafe. Unfortunately shut until early February.
Grange and Hampsfell from Gibraltar Farm.
A short walk down the quiet lane took us to Jack Scout with its renovated Limekiln.
The path through Jack Scout with Heysham just visible across the bay.
Hillside Cottage
A small disused quarry.
Brown's Houses at Jenny Brown's point.
Our return was along the foreshore passing this old bridge onto the salt marsh.
The chimney of a copper smelting furnace remains. The workings are hidden within the woodland behind I believe.
Each time we pass this way there is less and less salt marsh.
A dull looking Warton Crag
Back at the causeway. The two young ladies doing the survey had left for lunch. We met up with them again near the car.
Brighter weather to the south of Heysham.
Looking over to Crag Foot.
And finally.....back to the car
