My right knee was giving me some discomfort so not wanting to miss what was a pleasant day we decided on a walk along the river. Unfortunately we had to cut short our intended route as the knee pain increased.

RA Update:   12th March 2009.....I have been to see the Rheumatology Nurse this morning. We have agreed that I should try a course of Gold injections and she as given me a note for my GP to start these. I plan to see him tomorrow and to get this under way asap. It involves first having a "mini does" and waiting for 30 minutes to see that there is no "major" reaction to it. Shortly after I will commence a weekly course of injections for 20 weeks. It also involves weekly blood & urine tests to see that there is no Kidney/Liver damage being done.

Whilst I was there I also mentioned my right knee which is now really painful and makes walking almost impossible. She called the specialist to have a look and they took a sample of the fluid around the knee (very painful) for analysis and also gave me a steroid injection in it. Hopefully in a day or to this will quieten it down.

Now to the walk.

This view along the Lune valley from the Crook O'Lune picnic site never fails to lift me.

In close up a distant Ingleborough its summit hidden in cloud.

Across to Caton Moor with its windfarm.

Down at river level now and following the western back upstream.

A look back to the picnic site.

Approaching a now redundant stile. There had been a frost overnight but the ground was very sticky which wasn't helpimg my knee.

The weir and flow monitoring station.

Into the woods for a short while. I was surprised that already the smell of wild garlic was in the air.

Approaching the pipe bridge over the river. By this time I had already decided to cut the walk short.

Looking upstream from the pipebridge. Our original intention had been to follow the river round to the cycleway near Bull Beck.

Looking downstream from the bridge

Dark skies over Clougha Pike.

Setting off back down the other river bank. The fences are still full of debris from when the river burst its banks.

The footbridge over Artle Beck. Years ago it was usually boots off here and paddle.

Back at the weir.

Looking over to Caton Mill now converted to private accomadation.

Walking under the old railway bridge.

A short walk down to the Crook O'Lune

And finally back to the car park.....My knee was playing up so much by now that we never bothered stopping, which must be a first!
