Cup Final day and visiting family meant only a short local walk. The last time we walked across Heysham Moss was shortly after we moved to Heysham about 10 years ago. That day we ended up to mid calf in a peaty mess and decided it was not for us. However in the intervening years the Wildlife Trust taken over a large piece of land making access much easier. It is rather a bland looking landscape at first but holds hidden gems for those who look hard a7 long enough.

Only 5 minutes from home and the public footpath starts near the sign on the left of the road.

At first the path follows the edge of a Park Home estate.

But soon we cross the railway line onto open land. The railway line only services the 2 Power Stations at Heysham.

A close up of the new estate which as grown over the past 10 years

Irises abound in the damp ground.

The area is also popular for the stabling of horses

We are now walking along a section that was once railway sidings. A number of years ago the railway serviced a large ICI site and also Heysham Harbour.

We are now walking back to find the entrance to the Nature Reserve.

A look over to Clougha Pike

This looks like it!

Confirmed!.....For more info click HERE  it will open in a new page.

Bog Grass / Cotton Grass.....take your pick

Entering a small copse, welcome relief from the sun

Can you spot the flat top of Ingleborough?

A wee bit blurry but it appeared out of nowhere so it was a quick point & shoot

Leaving the moss over another railway bridge all that remained was for us to find our way through the new estate we were not familar with.

As luck would have it we emerged here only 5 minutes from home.

I could have murdered a pint but the Old Hall hadn't even opened yet

Next Walk:     1st June 2009 -- Yorkshire Dales (N) -- Swaledale Meadows

Last Walk:       29th May 2009 - SE Cumbria - A Crooklands walkabout
