I was by myself today as Edith wanted a day in the garden. On reflection I would have been better staying at home as I really caught the sun on this walk. I don't mean sunburn, it was the heat that got to me as there wasn't a scrap of shade at any point. I'm not sure how hot it was but the outside thermo on the car dashboard was reading 30C when I arrived at Conder Green. The walk itself was simple enough, picked in the hope of a sea breeze along the Lancashire Coastal Way and back.

After parking the car I made my way along the disused railway line towards Glasson Dock

Looking across the River Lune to Overton

The marina at Glasson Dock

The sad looking Baa Baa Gee still for sale

In the saltwater dock the Silver River is unloading

After walking through the village I took the path down Marsh Lane towards Crook Farm.

About to cross Janson Pool.....this would look very inviting on the way back

I had noticed the farmers seperating this cow from the herd to bring her back to the farm.....more later

"Can ya ride tandem?"....if so this could be for you

Crook Farm

Across the river to Sunderland Point

18 x zoom......The Ben My Chree on its way to Heysham from the Isle of Man

A touch of clour offers a foreground to the Plover Scar lighthouse

This was the site of the original Abbey Lighthouse

The Ben My Chree about to enter the harbour.

Plover Scar lighthouse, built in 1847 with two ships at anchor behind.

Cockersands Abbey

Holding back the tide.....a sort of modern day King Canute

Now all I've got to do is go back....Three choices fields, lanes or same way. I decided on the same way hoping that there would be a bit of a sea breeze.

Chirp chirp

Remember the cow?.....well here she is with her new offspring, all of an hour old.

So warm now.

Should I?....It looked so inviting but on closer inspection very salty and silted up.

Back to Glasson and the village school.

I decided to pop into the marina to see if the chandlers was open but I was out of luck. This fine vessel was having an overhaul.

Glasson church across the field and an unseen canal.

Looking to the Marina from the road bridge over the canal

Almost back.

The new cafe

Back to the car

You can't have thought I walked by the cafe without stopping. Only had Mint Choc Chip ice-cream though as they had sold out of all other flavours over a busy weekend.

Next Walk:      2nd July 2009 - Forest of Bowland - The Crook O'Lune and Gray's Seat
