This is a walk that I had been intending to do for some time. It is a varied walk along paths and bridleways with fantastic views particularly into Ribblesdale. A couple of awkward stiles on the descent from Pot Scar but generally fairly straightforward walking.
We left the car at the roadside in Austwick opposite the Gamecock Inn....Not that this would influence me.
After a few hundred yards walking along the road towards Helwith Bridge we took the bridleway on the right by the barn.
Our route ahead....we would eventually climb up through the woods ahead.
Flascoe Bridge, an old clapper bridge over Austwick Beck
A look S'wards to the Bowland Fells
And across to Norber
We had not walked through the woods before so decided to do so.
The route is well waymarked and offers splendid views
Ingleborough just begins to show above Norber
A view over to Moughton Scar
The path exited onto the Pennine Bridleway
From where we took a path signposted "Hargreaves Barn". We would follow this path to roughly its highest point before heading up Smearsett Scar.
As we gained height the views into Ribblesdale opened up
My personal favourite of the YDNP 3 Peaks......Pen y ghent.....surprisingly though I have climbed Ingleborough more times.
Nearly there Edith!!.....meanwhile I'm puffing and panting like an old carthouse.
Made it......Smearsett Scar
A look along the ridge to Pot Scar.
Ingleborough from Smearsett Scar.
Pen y ghent from Smearsett Scar
In the far distane you can see Pendle Hill. Across the valley and just to the left & above the dog is a short section of wall. Known as the "Celtic Wall" it is undoubtably very old but I'm not sure anybody is certain of it's origins. We will visit it again one day. The dog belonged to a lady whom we spent a good 1/2 hour chatting to. Walks alone regularly and as done the Munroes and is now on with the Corbetts.
I know!.....its P-Y-G again, but it's my camera ......lol
Making our way along to Pot Scar and I can almost smell the buns at the cafe in Feizor
A look back to Smearsett Scar
The last short climb to Pot Scar
Smearsett Scar from Pot Scar with Fountains Fell in the far distance on the left.
Pot Scar summit
Descending from Pot Scar to the Pennine Bridleway
Which we followed down to Feizor
Yes!!!!.....If your ever nearby, don't miss this place.
As we set off back towards Austwick it decided to throw a shower, just heavy enough to have to put on the jackets
By the time we got to Wood House it had all but stopped
Those "railway flowers" as we call them get everywhere but do add a splash of colour
Riders on the Pennine Bridleway
And finally....Edith on Flascoe Bridge.....the pub?....nah, I was full from the cafe.
