The knee had come through yesterdays slightly longer walk OK so with the promise of a fine day we set off for Elterwater.
We had been a little late setting off and it was turned 10am when we arrived rather than risk finding the National Trust car park full I just left the car at the first available space with a view of Lingmoor and the Langdale Pikes.
As we walked down to the village we passed this delightful row of cottages with Wetherlam getting in the picture
A very quiet Britannia Inn
The bridge over Great Langdale Beck at Elterwater
Loughrigg Fell as we walk towards Elter Water
The path is part of the Cumbria Way
The name is derived from the Norse "Elter" meaning swan so it's rather appropriate to have a couple here cruising towards Lingmoor Fell.
The majestic Langdales overlook the valley.
As well as the swans these chappies are always about
Walking towards Skelwith Bridge with Wetherlam poorly reflected in the water
A look back before we enter the woods.
No visit to Skelwith Force today, instead we took the path over the footbridge which avoids road walking at Skelwith Bridge.
Contented cows near Park House
The Langdales from near Park House.
A glimpse of the Helvellyn ridge with Great Rigg and Fairfield.
Park Farm
Descending to Low Colwith.
Through the woods towards Colwith Force
Colwith Force
And again from higher along the path.
Walking down to High Park farm with Bowfell peeping through between Blake Rigg and Lingmoor.
Pike O'Blisco with the road leading over the Wrynose Pass on it's left side. Spot the cars? The cloud by now was starting to build and fill in a little.
Wetherlam from Stang End
The footbridge near the ford is looking a little worse for wear nowadays and as a "person limit" on it, although what the limit is as now disappeared from this end.
This is where we leave this track to go to Slater Bridge.
Slater Bridge....It took a while to get the bridge "people free"
Looking to the head of Little Langdale with the dip of the Wrynose Pass.
Almost a Little Langdale horseshoe....just Lingmoor is missing on the right.
Now I ain't seen this before!!...although I usually walk this walk the other way around I think I would have noticed this solar cell(?) above Dale End farm before. It is near a small reservoir and supposedly protected by.....
It's got a grand view though but not a lot of sun at the moment.
Descending to the quarry through Sawrey's Wood on the bridleway
The Langdale Pikes from the quarry.
And a peek into the quarry
The shop/Post Office in Elterwater is now closed but this gentleman was providing nourishment in the form of my favourite desert. Only one size, fortunately large and flavour though.
And finally...It's a new gameshow.....Find the car!!
