A lovely sunny back end day and just a short car journey to Crag Foot to do one of our favourite local walks.
Heald Brow from where we left the car near Crag Foot
From Crag Foot there was a short walk up the quarry road to gain access to the bridleway known as the Old Coach Road
Leaving the road to take the bridleway.
A look down the bay towards Heysham through a break in the hedgerow
We have left the bridleway now to take a well trodden path towards the summit
I love walking this path, it is different every time with the changing seasons
Lovely moss covered limestone. Wonderful to see but lethal to walk on.
Arrival at the summit with its lopsided beacon and trig point
Lovely views over Jenny Browns point to Grange over Sands with Black Combe in the distance
Looking over Eaves Wood and Arnside Knott to the Coniston Fells
Looking down the bay to Morecambe & Heysham. Blackpool Tower is just visible about 1/4 of the way in from the left.
Having left the summit we made our way down to the Coach Road again.
A distant Ingleborough
Recently placed flowers above the crags. Not sure about the significance but there was a young soldier killed climbing around here a few weeks ago.
Almost down to the coach road where after turning right for a few yards.
We entered the area known as the Three Brothers. The path through here is a permissive one. Please check on the gate as to whether shooting is happening that day.
The Three Brothers....they are not hard to find, in fact they are shown on the OS map. It is hard to get a picture showing all three, this was the best I could do.
We then made our way to the road to Leighton Hall
A stop for Edith to renew friendships.
An old Lime Kiln near Leighton Hall
Leighton Moss and Arnside Knott from above Leighton Hall
Leighton Hall
Youngsters enjoying the early afternoon sun as we make our way to Leighton Moss.
Grisedale Farm
The causeway across Leighton Moss
The RSPB Visitor Centre at Leighton Moss now reopened after a modifications
Slackwood Farm.....A listed building sadly in need of some TLC.
And finally......back to the car
