Another beautiful autumnal day took us to Ashes Lane for a walk to Staveley using part of the Dales Way.

From where we left the car we first had to cross the quite busy A591 to take a lane down to Bowston Farm.

Cottages at Lanehead

A glimpse of Potter Fell as we approach Bowston Farm

Bowston Farm. From here we walked along the quiet road to Bowston

Passing through Bowston

A first view of the River Kent

From Bowston we took the Dales Way to Cowan Head where the old mills have been replaced by expensive apartments.

Leaving Cowan Head the Dales Way follows the River Kent.

Approaching Hagg Bridge

The River Kent from Hagg Bridge

The path at times rises a short way above the river.

Getting near to Staveley now. We can see the top of Reston Scar in the distance

The Dales Way used to continue along the path shown to Sandyhill but was diverted in 1991 to miss the farm out.

Sandyhill with Reston Scar behind

A look back to Potter Fell

Entering Staveley to pick up the path on the other side of the road.

Crossing the A591 was much easier here on the Staveley to Crook road.

A couple of locals at Field Close

A look back as we follow the Dales Way to New Hall

New Hall. We left the Dales Way here to take the lane to Ashes

The Howgill Fells from the junction of Ashes Lane and the Staveley - Crook road

Where the rainbow came from beats me.....we never had a spot of rain.

Passing the campsite on Ashes Lane
