Another visit to the Lakes today, this time a little closer to home for short walk around Rydal Water. Not the brightest of days but at least it stayed fine.
Having left the car at Pelter Bridge we walked up the dark lane towards Rydal Water.
Hmmm....Looks like one of those days. At least it's fine.
Across Rydal Water to Nab Scar
We continued up the old quarry road, now a permissive path towards the old quarries.
Rydal Cave.
Along the permissive path with Loughrigg to our left
Normally we go left along the Loughrigg Terrace to Red Bank. Today however it was the path on the right.
This period was the best part of the day weatherwise. Unfortunately it didn't last long. Looking across to Nab Scar. We were puzzled for a while about what the cabins were halfway up.
A look back while it's a bit brighter
Dropping down to Grasmere
What would you call this short stretch between Grasmere and Rydal Water?.....Grydal Beck perhaps
The Boss-Lady waits patiently not knowing she's in the frame.
Grasmere
And there are even some poor reflections.
Looking up Grasmere to Helm Crag and Dunmail Raise.
Last time we came this way we crossed this bridge to go to White Moss. Today we will stay on this side for a while.
Plenty of water coming down
The paths are good but wet today
Moss & Ferns along the path Crossing the footbridge to White Moss
From the car park at White Moss we took a path upwards to jpoin the Grasmere - Rydal corpse road passing this lovely fall along the way.
Arriving at the corpse road we found ourselves a seat to share our lunch with a few friends
A glimpse of the huts etc we saw from the t'other side. I'm assuming they were working on the Thirlmere aqueduct which runs along the here.
Mossy walls and big ferns
Across Rydal Water to the NE end of Loughrigg
and to Loughrigg summitt
Rydal Mount....Home to William Wordsworth from 1813 until 1850
A short diversion into the grounds of Rydal Hall to the cafe.
The falls near the cafe The lower falls
Rydal Hall Grotto
The falls from the Grotto. I did clean the inside first but the outside would be more difficult so was left.
My favourite The Grotto and the falls
Rydal Hall.....
And finally.....back to Pelter Bridge
