Undecided where to go today we set off from home for the Lakes but when we got on the promenade at Morecambe it looked so dull we decided to head south where at least there appeared to be some sun. This section of the canal in mid January was very quiet. Not a soul did we see until we left the canal to go into Garstang for a bite to eat. Although sunny it was very hazy and views towards the Bowland Fells were virtually non existent. Win some - lose some.

The view towards Nick Nook from where we left the car.

The way ahead (l) and a look back (r) The towpath was a bit churned up in places by a quad bike type vehicle.

I think this is Bell's Bridge

Both sides of the canal along this length are agricultural

No relections with the wind (l)                                                      A still frozen section (r)

The marina at Garstang....I think it is the Bridgehouse Marina

There are also holiday homes on the site.

This bridge carries the A6 over the canal.

And this I think a water main. F.W.B. ....Fylde Water Board in days of old.

At this bridge we left the canal to walk into Garstang for a bite to eat.

It was market day and the town was quite busy. It was around noon so we decided to visit the cafe in the local Booths. A wee pit pricey but good all the same.

After a bit of a look around, we intend to do some walks from here, we returned to the canal to make our way back.

Whilst we were in Garstang the weather had changed and the start of the return was under cloudy skies

This area of the canal would have been used for turning boats around in. It looks like it as silted up on the far side now.

The day started to brighten again as we got nearly back. I hadn't noticed the marker stone on our outward leg. It doesn't look like a milestone for the canal, they are usually more robust and rougher. The picture on the right shows that the hedges have recently been cut thus explaining the tyre marks along the towpath.

Nearly back as Snape Wood farm appears.

The last few hundred yards (l) and the point where we leave (r)
