We left the car near Milnthorpe Bridge and crossed it to take a path on the left hand side of the River Bela
Looking back to the bridge
The weir
The day was dull and dreary but there was some hope as the sun tried to penetrate through the low cloud.
Looking back and up to Haverbrack as we follow the River Bela.
Frosted and frozen banks as we look towards Whitbarrow
At the point where the Bela joins the River Kent
Whitbarrow
On the way to Sandside where we will take a path up through the woods towards Haverbrack
Hopefully a sign of better days to come
We would walk up through the woods to emerge on a minor road with a path up to Haverbrack at the other side.
A look back from the minor road.
And the continuing path upwards. That sun just can't get through!
Almost at the top but the views are just as dull
A minor trespass shows that although South Lakeland may be under cloud to the east the Howgills are not.
Milnthorpe & the Howgills
Entering the game wildlife area on Haverbrack
We left the wildlife area at Wray Cottage from where we walked down towards Beetham
Limestone Kiln at Low Edge
A look back at Haverbrack
The entrance to Dallam Park which we would walk through, but first....
A quick visit to the Heron Corn Mill at Beetham
This could interest Joan Billard from Ontario, Canada who is visiting Beetham later this year
It was only possible to visit part of the complex as work was going on,
This is the main worm gear, you can just see the waterwheel throgh the hole in the wall.
All that I could see of the waterwheel as areas were fenced off
After our brief visit we walked up into Dallam Park.
A close up of Farleton Fell
We walked through the park towards the trees on the right. This is where the deer were when we passed in the car earlier
Looking down the park top Dallam Towers.
A still dull Lakeland
Howgills 'n Houses....I was quite pleased at how this came out
And we even eventually managed to find the deer although I had to take this from a couple of hundred yards away.
We walked down to the Bela
Dallam Tower
Milnthorpe Bridge...the car is parked just to the right.
