This is our third walk along here so far in 2010 so I do hope dear reader that I am not boring you. The reason for this visit was that I had seen on Flicker (don't ask!) that there had been a couple on inches of snow the previous day on Scout Scar. Couple this with a visit to Kendal and there you are.
After parking the car and getting into our boots we set off for Cunswick. The worst part of the walk underfoot was the car parking area which was very icy. This hardy soul passed us for his run along the felltop.
Out onto the open fell and a winter wonderland. It had been well walked at the weekend but there was plenty of pristine snow to walk on.
Approaching the wall corner where we turn N'wards the views to the Whinfell Ridge and the Howgills was gorgeous.
There was however a bitter NE'ly wind. The farmer had kindly left feed for the cows in the lee of the wall offering them some protection.
The Whinfell Ridge.
Finding fresh snow to walk on was not difficult on the broad ridge.
The Howgills begin to show themselves from behind Kendal Fell and Benson Knott
The ridge itself is a delight to walk along and all the time you are walking into the views.
From the cross-fell fence our route to the summit will we on the left hand track shown then after dropping down we will trurn along the right hand path.
Distant Coniston Fells.
The final rise to the summit.
There isn't as much snow on the top. It's probably been blown off.
The Conistons from the summit
The Crinkle Crags and Bowfell with Scafell Pike behind.
The Langdale Pikes
Unfortunately my favourite view up the Kentmere Valley was not so good today
Potter Fell
Looking eastwards
and in close up The Howgills
We hung around for a short while hoping it would clear but to no avail
Making our way back
A look back
A big zoom showed it had cleared a little but not much.
And finally ......the last leg back to the car.
