All Fools' Day and Mother Nature had played one of her tricks. Just when everybody was saying "Spring as sprung" etc she laid a white carpet over much of the Lake District. Unfortunately we had other committments which prevented us travelling north but this short walk gave us the opportunity to see the views.
We parked on the Arnside - Silverdale road near Arnside Tower farm and made our way upwards through the woods.
This is by far the easiest way to the summit.
Looking over the Kent estuary and Arnside.
The Fairfield Horseshoe
The Kentmere Horseshoe over Whitbarrow.
Edith at the Trig Point looking a little chilled. It was blowing quite hard.
Looking over Storth and Haverbrack to the Howgill Fells.
Grange and Hampsfell from the summit seat.
Looking over Newton Fell towards the Conistons which stayed mostly out of sight.
Eastern & Far Eastern Fells
The National Trust Viewpoint......"pop in a pound or whatever you can afford please "
The Howgills from the viewpoint.
Far Eastern delight.
The Conistons still play shy.
Looking over New Barns and the estuary to Grange.
Looking down the bay towards home as we descend to Heathwaite.
Entering Heathwaite
Looking back up the Heathwaite path.
Passing by Hollins Farm as we leave Heathwaite.
We then walked across the field paths to the Caravan Park. Here we are looking back towards Heathwaite.
Refreshment time at the cafe in the Caravan Park. We then walked up through the park to take a path to Eaves Wood.
There are paths by the score in the woods but the main ones are waymarked.
A look over to Humphrey Head as we make our way to the Pepper Pot.
Looking over Silverdale towards home.
From the Pepper Pot we took a path leading to Waterslack.
On our way we passed a rather large ant hill and I couldn't resist trying the Macro on the camera. I can't honestly say no ants were harmed but I did suffer a few bites.
Making our way to Waterslack
Waterslack. From here we crossed the railway line to go to Far Waterslack and Middlebarrow Quarry
Approaching Far Waterslack with the snow covered Kentmere Horseshoe ahead.
The now disused Middlebarrow Quarry. From here it is just a case of follow your nose round to Arnside Tower.
There as been a lot of tree felling in the last few years, hopefully the wild flowers will return to the area.
Passing by Arnside Tower and we are nearly back.
Just a walk through the farm and back up to the car with a snow topped Ingleborough in view.
Next Walk: 2nd April 2010 - Forest of Bowland - Nicky Nook from Scorton
Last Walk: 28th March 2010 - Yorkshire Dales - The Celtic Wall & Happy Valley
