I wasn't feeling 100% today. After a couple of bad nights sleep my chest was feeling a bit tight. It was such a glorious morning however that the day could not be forfeited altogether so an early start meant we were the first in the car park at Pelter Bridge even after stopping at Waterhead for a few pictures. From the car park we took the path towards Rydal Water and then the "Terrace Route". After descending to the waterside of Grasmere through Deerbolts Wood we made our way to White Moss to take a path up onto the Grasmere - Rydal corpse road to Rydal Hall. After a brew and scone it was but a few minutes back to the car.
Just had to stop at Waterhead for a couple of pictures. It was a bit to breezy for reflections however.
Another early bird hoping to get the mere to himself.
Having parked up at Pelter Bridge where we were the first ones we walked up the lane.
Beautiful
Nab Scar as we make our way towards the old quarries.
A wee bit of a climb here as we pass the first disused quarry.
The second old working more popularly known as Loughrigg cave.
Nab Scar and a more distant Low Pike from the cave
Loughrigg Terrace with Silver How ahead.
Looking over Rydal Water to White Moss common.
A look back to Low Pike and Red Screes
Stay left.
Silver How reflected in the waters of Grasmere.
Helm Crag close up.
Gorgeous Grasmere.
At the end of the Terrace Route we took the zig-zig path down through Deerbolt Woods to the shores of Grasmere.
No perfect reflections as there was a slight breeze but looking good nevertheless.
After a prolonged period of dry weather there is only a trickle of water passing over the weir.
We followed the beck downstream towards White Moss.
From White Moss we took the path up to the Grasmere - Rydal Corpse road.
Barely enough water for a shower.
Loughrigg from the corpse road.
A glimpse of Wetherlam
Wansfell
Plenty of folk about on this side of the valley.
The Foxgloves are now in flower but the dry spell seems to have stunted some.
Rydal Mount.....t'other Wordsworth pad.
Well go on then......seeing that it's here.
Rydal Hall.....anybody for croquet?
Not much water coming down Rydal Beck.
Rydal Hall
And finally.....back to Pelter Bridge which is a bit busier now.
