Around 12:15 a very dull and cloudy morning gave way to a much brighter afternoon. It was however blowing very hard and knowing Edith's dislike for the wind I picked this walk. With hindsight it wasn't perhaps the best choice as the walk across the sea defences at Quaker Stang nearly had her off her feet a couple of times. This was followed by a short but steep climb to Heald Brow on a very wet and muddy track., not the best choice for my still tender knee and ankle. However this is a pleasant short walk but perhaps one best left for a better day.
Looking over to Crag Foot as we start the walk.
Our route will take us along the flood defence causeway which is part of the Lancashire Coastal Way and then over Heald Brow shown here.
It was quite difficult holding the camera steady along here with a very strong breeze.
It nearly had Edith over a couple of times.
Normally when we walk along here we follow the coast round to Jenny Brown's Point. Today however I had planned something different.
A glimpse of Farleton Knott to our north.
We have now reached the end of the causeway and having a look back towards Warton Crag.
Fairly steep, very wet and slippy mud. Not the best idea for my knee and ankle!!
A look over to Warton Crag as we gain a bit of height.
Entering Heald Brown and the walking is easier now.
We are more or less now on the top and it's just a case of following the wall after passing through the stile.
The RoW passes to the left of the barn to join a lane although lots of walkers cut the corner and pass to the right to join the lane further along.
At the end of the lane we cross a minor road. I'm not sure what this walled structure is but I suspect it is an old well as there are a number of similar structures in the area.
Having crossed the road, at the fingerpost there is a choice of paths, a lower one to Woodwell which we have visited many times and an upper path which at first follows a crag edge. This will take us to Silverdale Green and is our choice today.
Looking down the crag we get a glimpse of Woodwell below.
Walking through Scout Wood.
In a small clearing our path merges with another to pass through the gate ahead to Silverdale Green.
The final few yards of the path run along this lane to join the road at Silverdale Green.
We turned right along the road to take a path....
......through the hamlet to take a path to Burton Well.
Grape Hyacinths
The path through the woods to Burton Well.
Burton Well.
The overflow from the well.
We followed the overflow for short distance down Lambert's Meadow before crossing the footbridge (seen on the left) to cross into the woods.
It is well into double figures of years since we walked this path and I was surprised how well walked it looked.
A short climb through the woods is followed by an equally short descent....
.....before we left the path to visit Bank Well at The Row.
From here it was a quiet walk back, first along The Row with with views over Silverdale Golf Course to the craggy face of Trowbarrow Quarry.
And over to Leighton Moss
Well, it is spring and we can't have a springtime walk without lambs.
Slackwood Farm
It's playtime!!.....it was hard to get Edith past these chappies.
Lots of these in the fields. Greylags I believe.
And finally......back to the car.
