I had an appointment for a CT Scan on my Lungs at Lancaster Infirmary at 09:15hrs which my specialist had requested. With the fine weather continuing we decided to put the walking gear in the car and to carry on to Scorton from the hospital. A route had not been fixed but when we got there we decided on this gentle walk on good waymarked paths.

Route Map

The car was left at the Scorton Picnic Site.

On leaving the picnic site we turned right to cross the River Wyre....

...and then took a path on the right which followed the river upstream through garlic rich woods.

A look down the river which after the recent spell of dry weather is very low.

And upstream.

After a while the path leaves the woods and river to cross the M6

The footbridge over the M6

The M6

A look towards Clougha Pike, Grit Fell and Ward's Stone with our route ahead over the stile past Guys.

Guys Farm Activity Centre.

Leaving Guys our path went across the fields towards the campsite at Sunnyside.

The campsite is extensive and part of the Wyreside Lakes Fishery complex. From the reception area our walk took us by...

The Lakes were created from former poor agricultural land after extraction of sand and gravel by Tarmac Roadstone Ltd. The first fish were introduced in 1984 (Mirror carp weighing up to 1.5 lbs) and they have thrived in the lakes, growing and breeding in a spectacular manner. Some of these original fish now weigh in the region of 40 lbs!

And then....

Our route then exited on to a road where a right turn took us....

.....over the River Wyre at Street Bridge.

After crossing the bridge we took a footpath on the right across the fields. The lakes on this side of the river are nothing to do with Wyreside Lakes as far as I am aware.

A big zoom to see the swan on the nest.

The well waymarked path crosses a couple of fields before....

....entering a small wood and....

...eventually leads us to Foxhouses Farm Cottages.

From Foxhouses we followed a narrow road with views to....

.....Harrisend Fell....

.....a distant Clougha Pike....

.....and Ward's Stone.

At the end of the lane we had a short road walk before entering Wyresdale Park....

....for views across Wyresdale Lake....

....to Nicky Nook from a rather rickety landing stage.

As we approached Wyresdale Park Edith found a new friend.

And I found a cafe but unfortunately it was closed due to a family wedding.

The track out of Wyresdale Park joined the minor road down to Scorton.

St Peter's Church, Scorton

A colourful village. Think it may have something to do with the Royal Wedding which had been a few days earlier. We stopped here for a while to visit the cafe in the garden centre before the final lap back to the car.

A short road walk northwards.....

....before taking a path through the fields back towards the car....

Looking over to Nicky Nook with the M6 in front.

And finally...... the last leg back to the car. Well not quite finally. As we were in no particular hurry we decided to take the long route home and get a few "bonus" pictures.

A hazy from of home and Black Combe from somewhere near Camm House.

Clougha Pike & Grit Fell.

Not 100% sure but I think it's Hawthornthwaite Fell.

Clougha & Grit Fell

Ward's Stone

Again not 100% but I think it's Tarnbrook Fell.

We are now at the car park at Jubilee Tower and due to the fire risk the access land as been closed.

And finally (again).....Jubilee Tower --- Built by Hare Appletree resident James Harrison, a rich Liverpool shipbuilder, in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee

Next Walk:      8th May 2011 - Arnside & Silverdale - An afternoon on Arnside Knott

Last Walk:       3rd May 2011 - Arnside & Silverdale - A tour of South Silverdale.
