---------------------------------------------------------------

The day like for most of the last week started dull with some light rain but around 11am it started to brighten a little. When Edith returned from shopping we set off for this short walk. However on arrival at Cleabarrow it wasn't as nice as what we had hoped for and when we arrived at the summit of School Knott it was difficult to stand still to take pictures. With nothing to be gained by going up Grandsire we called it a day and hope that tomorrow brings more settled weather.

The private fishery of Cleabarrow Tarn

Lots of Rhododendrons about now.

The farmer is busy in the fields....

and it's time to move on before he gets any closer.

As we approach the new tarn Red Screes is visible in the distance. We are still sheltered from the breeze here.

At the waymarker we turned right to follow the track upwards..

People on the Dales Way would take a right turn at the two trees. Are route however is straight ahead....

....and eventually takes us to School Knott Tarn.

There is a little sunshine in lower Kentmere but here it is dull and the breeze is freshening.

A look back as I have a breather on the short climb up School Knott.

Looking over Reston Scar

Brant Fell.

Over Windermere to Claife Heights and cloud topped Coniston Fells

It was very difficult to keep the camera still at this point as there was a good breeze.

It's always a nice la'al walk up here even on days like this.

Looking over Orrest Head to Wansfell and the Fairfield Fells,.....

....and over Banner Rigg to Sour Howes and the Kentmere Fells.

There was no sign of any brightening in the weather....

....as we descended to the tarn and the climb up Grandsire seemed a pointless exercise at this point.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring something better I thought as we returned to the car.

Jackdaw

The aroma of the countryside filled the air.

Back to the car and I couldn't even be bothered going to Bowness as we usually do.

Next Walk:      19th May 2011 - Lake District - Cunswick Fell

Last Walk:       11th May 2011 - South Cumbria - Haverbrack & Beetham Fell
