A perfect day for walking. Edith however decided to stay at home to catch up with the garden and house. She was also expecting a visit from a cousin and his wife who were staying in the area for a day or two. I opted for an early start and I was parked up and walking at Silverdale before 8am.

Route Map

A look across the bay from Morecambe. It is a glorious morning.

I parked up in Silverdale at the roadside and walked back through the village....

....to take the path across the fields to The Cove.

The morning sun was catching the low clouds to bounce back onto the calm waters of the bay.

This is probably the best I have seen it so far this year.

Looking down on The Cove and the tide as just started ebbing.

Another shot from the shore.

And one towards Humphrey Head and Kents Bank.

Cove Cottage

A short walk along the road to enter Holgates Caravan Park which I walked across (waymarked) to take the path to Far Arnside.

It's an unbelievably glorious morning, there's very nearly a spring in my step!

My route ahead.

An Herdwick holidaymaker at Hollins Farm as I pass on my way to Heathwaite.

The slopes of Heathwaite were alive with colour. I decided to walk up to the viewpoint.

The view down Morecambe Bay as I gain some height.

I did warm the bench for a few minutes.

Leaving Heathwaite to carry on up the Knott.

Looking down the bay into the sun.

Over Heathwaite to Humphrey Head

There are a few clouds bubbling up now but the views are still good as I look over New Barns to Hampsfell and Grange from the view point on the Knott.

Distant Coniston Fells

Looking over Whitbarrow to the fells of the Fairfield Horseshoe, of Kirkstone and the Kentmere Horseshoe.

In the shade on the summit.

Walking down Red Hills with views to Hampsfell...

.....and to Coniston Fells

Colourful Red Hill slopes.

I made my way down Red Hills and onto the Arnside - Silverdale road near Arnside Tower farm.

The Knott from Arnside Tower.

Arnside Tower.

From the Tower I took a rising path into the top end of Holgates Caravan Park.

A walk across the park (waymarked) (l) and through the woods (r) led me to this wall stile.

The main path carries on ahead to Elmslack but after passing through the wall a left turn leads into Eaves Wood and to the Pepper Pot.

Looking over Silverdale as I make my way over to the Pepper Pot.

This is a lovely viewpoint and would make a great picnic stop if I had owt to eat. But as I haven't let's go!

I descended through Eaves Wood to take a path down to the road near  Woodlands.

A short walk down the road towards Silverdale Green and then across the fields towards Silverdale.

Looking over to Eaves Wood....can you spot the Pepper Pot.

I was soon across the fields and a walk through the churchyard soon had me....

.....back to the car.

Next Walk:      12th June 2011 - Arnside & Silverdale AONB - A Leighton Moss circular

Last Walk:       10th June 2011 - North Lancashire - A Thurnham circular.
