---------------------------------------------------------------

A dull start to the day and other things to do meant that I was unable to fit a walk in until mid-afternoon. As I left home it did seem to be brightening and I was hoping for some good views from the Knott. However with a moderate breeze things had altered by the time I arrived at Arnside. I decided to follow the river down to New Barns and then walk up the Knott in the hope that things brightened later. This did work to some extent but not as good as I was hoping for. However a "meet-up" with the young Highland calves as I walked along Red Hills raised the spirits and made Edith, who wasn't with me today a little jealous when I showed her the pictures.

Route Map

The tide is in but it is on the ebb.

It's not the brightest of days but at least it's fine.

Looking down the estuary as I make my way to New Barns.

There were a few young men fishing near New Barns but I don't think they were doing much.

Approaching New Barns

A look back to Whitbarrow...

....and across to Hampsfell.

As I made my way into Copridding Wood the farmer was doing some training with one of the dogs.

Walking up through Copridding Wood

Over the River Kent to Hampsfell

Considering the day the views ain't bad at all.

Faraway Furness over Heathwaite.

Even Lakelands letting me know its there.

A final climb past the Twin or Lover's Tree

Made it!!

A look down the southern screes to Arnside Tower and Farm....

.....and down the bay to home.

From the southern edge I made my way back to the summit and then onto Red Hills.

Well I've seen a lot worse views.

Just a pity that the sun wouldn't come out to play and light up the colours.

I made my way down keeping an eye out for the cattle...

....who as usual were very accommodating as models.

Dr Doolittle will be sooooo jealous when she sees these.

I walked down fro Red Hills and down to the shore where after a visit to the Beach Walk Cafe near the Coastguard Station I made my way back into Arnside.

Whatever the weather this is and will always be my favourite place.

Next Walk:      20th June 2011 - Lake District - Hugill Fell & Reston Scar with Jess

Last Walk:       16th June 2011 - Lake District - An Elterwater walkabout.
