---------------------------------------------------------------

An early morning phone call to a dwelling in Lower Kentmere confirmed that a certain young lady was now available to come with us for a walk so we were soon away and parked up for this walk. A gorgeous day with fantastic views made the walk all the more pleasant but it was really the company that gave us most pleasure. After the walk we returned the young lady home and after a bite to eat in Wilf's at Staveley we still had plenty of time to call in at Arnside for a short walk up to Red Hills for the boss-lady to see the Highland calves.

Reston Scar from our parking spot......now we have to pick up that young lady.

Passing the weir at Barley Bridge

The Bungalow.

The gate is open, let's see if we can get up the drive without her hearing us.

Not a chance!!....As soon as she heard Ediths voice she was down the drive and all over her.

Regular readers will remember this is how we last saw her. Since then all the pups have been found homes.

Someone is ready for the off.

Roger, her owner had told us that she may not be as lively as before but that wasn't the impression we got. She was bouncing up the fellside and back down again.

I wondered how long it would be before the treats came out!.....goodness only knows what she has in that bag today.

She'd already been to the wall near the summit and back countless times by now.....I meanwhile was gasping.

A look over to Reston Scar.

Now at the wall corner just below the summit and looking over to Brunt Knott.

Here she comes again!

We are now on what as become known as the Wainwright top on Hugill Fell. By rights there should be a cairn here. Admittedly it wasn't as nice as the one shown in AW's book "The Outlying Fells of Lakeland" as it had damaged and vandalised a number of times over the years but it was there. However in recent times someone as taken it open themselves to destroy this cairn and it would appear that some of the material as been used to cover a wet section of the path and some to make a bigger cairn on another top a little way to the north.

Looking across the valley to Brunt Knott.

Looking up Kentmere to the high fells.

Red Screes between Sour Howes and Sallows

Distant Langdale Fells

From the "Wainwright" summit we walked over to the more northern top

It looks like some of the material from the Wainwright top as been used here.

In fairness the northern top does over better views into Upper Kentmere.

From the northern top we walked over to the western top which is the highest point with good views over Banner Rigg to the Coniston Fells...

...and to the fells of Little & Great Langdale

From the western top it was a short stroll over to Reston Scar which Jess seemed to remember as a feeding station.

She was not averse to a mixture of our cats food and biscuits....

.....which disappeared in double quick time along with some doggie treats.

She is on the lead now because there are sheep grazing nearby.

A look over the valley to Brunt Knott

Once again to maximise Jess's time off the lead we decided to retrace our footsteps back. Our path is through the young plantation and up onto the western top.

These small hills are a magnificent viewpoint and normally very quiet.

Walking back through the young plantation.

Some clouds spill over the Crinkles and Bowfell as we return to the highest point of Hugill Fell.

From the summit you can pick out Williamson's Monument on High Knott in the shade. It's a pity that the Access Land doesn't continue to there  it would make a pleasant walk.

Back on the naked "Wainwright" summit. If by the slightest of chances the person responsible for the removal of the cairn does read this it would be nice if you could e-mail me with your reasons.

A last look up the valley before we start our descent.

Sometimes she stays still long enough for me to get a proper picture.....

.....and sometimes she even stops for a lay down.....but not often!

Nearly back at the bungalow now and I can see Roger in the back garden.

She knows there's always a final treat.

That should keep her busy for a while.

We made our way back to the car and then to Wilf's Cafe in Staveley for a bite to eat. Then with a bit of time to play with.....

....on our way home we called in at Arnside and walked up to Red Hills to see the calves which Edith had missed...

Lakeland from Red Hills.

And finally......with plenty of Brownie Points from the boss-lady we returned home.
