I'm not sure why I set off on this walk. It was a bit of a dull morning, Edith was at her brothers and I had plenty of catching up to do on here. Whatever the reason was I was parked up around mid-morning at Crag Foot. I decided to go up Warton Crag first as it gave me the option of cutting the walk short if the day worsened.

Route Map.

From the car I walked back along the road passing the old chimney (l) to take the quarry road which I left to take the path that runs over the crag (r)

Looking towards the summit as I make my way upwards.

A glimpse of home and I'm wondering at this point why I left. The day although fine is quite dull.

The path however is a pleasant walk although the views aren't up to much....

....on reaching the gate (r) pass through the wall stile...

.....and the way becomes greener with lots of limestone to admire...

....eventually for your persistence you will reach the summit which is marked by a trig point and a beacon with a list.

From the crag edge the views down the bay are good but would be improved with a little sun.

Looking over Jenny Brown's Point to Grange & Hampsfell with the Furness peninsula behind and a distant Black Combe.

A bit of a zoom reveals the Ben My Chree on her way to Heysham Harbour so it must be around noon. About a 1/4 in from the left I can just spot Blackpool Tower.

From the summit I made my way down using a track that passes by an area used by the climbers.

Looking over to Clougha Pike....

.....and a murky Ingleborough

I walked down through the woods to cross the bridleway and enter the area known as Three Brothers to take a permissive path.

There was little point in visiting the Three Brothers at this time of year as they are covered in undergrowth.....

.....instead I made my way to the Piggeries to take the minor road up to Leighton Hall.

Passing the entrance to Leighton Hall. My path however is a short distance on...

The path to the viewpoint on Summerhouse Hill

Looking over to the wooded slopes of the Crag.

Looking over Leighton Hall and Humphrey Head to the Furness peninsula.

And over Leighton Moss and Hampsfell to Black Combe.

Arnside Knott behind the old quarry face at Middlebarrow with the Coniston Fells to the right.

Leighton Hall

From Leighton Hall my route took me down the lane past Grisedale Farm towards Leighton Moss.

At least it wasn't overrun with seagulls today!!

The RSPB Visitor Centre at Leighton Moss.

From the visitor centre there was a section of road walking back to the car.

Not one of my best visits but it gets me out of the house for an hour or two and it exercises my lungs which is a priority.

Next Walk:      13th July 2011 - Lake District - Gummer's How & Fell Foot

Last Walk:       11th July 2011 - South Cumbria - The Kendal Scars
