---------------------------------------------------------------

Another day that started off dull and a bit drizzly with a promise of better things later. We hung about home until around 11am and then decided on this short walk.

Route Map

We parked up at the top of the Grange - Cartmel road near the lane to Spring Bank.

There was a lot of high white cloud about as we set off along the lane but the views across the bay to the hills of Bowland were clear enough.

A look towards home, can't see the cat though!

Looking over Spring Bank to Arnside Knott with Ingleborough beyond.

Another look back, hopefully we may get some sun.

We followed the lane past High Farm and then took a path to the left....

....which follows the top of Eggerslack Wood.

After leaving the wooded area look out for a waymark (l) to take a winding path up the fellside (r)

The path does a couple of zig-zags up the fellside....

..there are a couple of points which lead off directly to the summit but resist taking these and follow the main path path....

....which will bring you to the gate shown.

The path ahead is now waymarked with the Coniston Fells just peeking through. We will follow the path a short while then leave it to head to the left and upwards.

Having left the path and gained some higher ground a view over to the Howgills and the skies are brightening.

Looking the other way over Cartmel to the Furness peninsula.

It is brightening quickly now as we look over Cartmel & Hodbarrow with Black Combe to the far right.

A wide view from Caw (l) to Helvellyn (r)....

.....and then onto Eastern & Far Eastern skyline.

While Edith took the grassy path towards the Hospice I went over some limestone pavement towards the highest point of the fell...

....for the wide view plus limestone.

Having rejoined Edith we made our way towards the Hospice stopping for this view over the Kent estuary towards Ingleborough.

Looking across the Kent and Morecambe Bay.

Hampsfell Hospice......more info HERE

Our way back is fairly simple, just follow the ridge southwards.

Just checking the time with Cartmel Priory.

The cairn at Fell End.

Looking over to Arnside.

The final leg down to the car.

Back!
