---------------------------------------------------------------

We had been busy with other things during the day and also the weather hadn't been much to write home about but around 4pm the day started to mend and it seemed a good opportunity to nip around to Arnside for a late afternoon /early evening walk.....we weren't disappointed!

We left the car on the promenade and set off walking around 5pm. The route is our usual one, down the estuary to New Barns, up the Knott and down Red Hills. Why change a winning formula?

The tide was on its way in. We had just missed the bore but hopefully this picture will show just how fast the water is moving as it races over a rocky outcrop.

There are still some dark skies towards Lakeland but it is gloriously sunny here.

Whitbarrow across the estuary.

We are not alone in enjoying a fine end to the day.

Looking into the sun, a glistening estuary at New Barns.

From New Barns we made our way to Copridding Wood for the climb up the Knott.

The viewpoint ahead and above us.

I was surprised how incredibly clear the views were.

The views to the hills of Bowland.

Looking down the bay to Morecambe & Heysham with the Fylde coast beyond.

Industrial Heysham...The Nuclear Power stations and Heysham Harbour.

Not as clear northwards from the viewpoint but still one of my favourite views.

From the viewpoint we made our way to the summit.

Before reaching the summit seat we turned off to the right to visit the south side above the scree slopes.

Looking over Hutton Roof Crags and Dalton Crags to Ingleborough.

Over Arnside Tower, Eaves Wood and Warton Crag to the hills of Bowland.

Over Holgates Caraven Park and Silverdale to Morecambe.

A beautiful early evening.

Arnside Knott trig point.

This is how one would imagine heaven to be.

Yeah.....It's them again. Time for me to have a rest.

Here we go again....." What ya got missus?"

"Grass again!!!.....you must be joking"

" Well go on, if it means you'll leave me in peace"

Not so easily fooled this lot.

Back down at the waterside.

The local coastguards are on a training exercise.

It's around 7pm and I can think of no better place to be.

Ashmeadow House

And finally......back to Arnside.

The Calendar season is upon us again. I have had a number of enquiries as to whether I will be producing a calendar this year. Once again the answer is no as I have neither the inclination to do so, or to make money out of what I enjoy. We normally support the R.N.L.I and Mountain Rescue in purchasing our calendars directly from them. However readers may be interested in this one from the Friends of the Lake District....At only £8.00 it offers good value for money and you will know that the monies raised will go to the the only charity wholly dedicated to protecting Cumbria's landscape for the future. Just clicking on the picture will take you to the website.
