After a rather dull morning with some drizzly rain it started to brighten just before midday. We didn't want to travel far so we decided on this fairly local walk from Conder Green. I also wanted to give the new trail shoes a try out and was pleased that I had no problems with them.

Route Map

We left the car at the Conder Green picnic site and set off along the trackbed of the old railway line towards Glasson Dock.

Crossing the bridge over the River Conder which rises from a small spring on Black Fell near Littledale

It is almost high tide at the moment and the River Lune is full.

A look back towards Clougha Pike.

Arriving at Glasson Dock. Across the River Lune is Overton.

These two yachts were returning to the fresh water marina behind me. They had been away for a couple of days and were now "locking through" from the salt water dock.

The dock gates to the salt water dock are still open. They will close just after high water.

Leaving the salt water dock we made our way along the marina to pick up the Glasson branch of the Lancaster canal.

Edith noticed this moggie in the cockpit of one of the boats as we passed. It is almost identical to our "evil one" aka "Fluff" although ours has got lots of pieces missing from his ears.

No reflections in the fresh water marina today, there is a bit of a breeze making it a little choppy.

We left the marina to walk along the Glasson branch of the canal.

A young Coot walks across some lily pads.

There is a bit of a breeze today so not much chance of any reflections.

Looking back towards Glasson from the first or sixth depending on which way you are going.

A family of swans as we progress.

I had just taken the last picture when this heron flew by....it was just a quick point & shoot.....nowt different there then!

The first (or sixth) lock. On the other side is the main Lancaster Canal.....right to Preston and left to Kendal, well Tewitfield nowadays.

It was a left turn for us, towards Galgate.

Approaching the marina at Galgate.

Galgate Bridge ahead.

Leaving the marina area we carried on along the canal towards the village.

Just past this point we left the canal to take a path that would return us to Conder Green.

The path leaves the canal (l) to head to the right to follow the edge of Forerigg Wood through a gate (r) before entering the wood on a waymarked path.

The path through the woods is only short and leads out into open fields....

....which lead to Parkside Farm which we passed through.

We are now back at Conder Green.....

.....with just a short walk down the lane past The Stork.....

......for a cuppa and cake at the cafe.

The Calendar season is upon us again. I have had a number of enquiries as to whether I will be producing a calendar this year. Once again the answer is no as I have neither the inclination to do so, or to make money out of what I enjoy. We normally support the R.N.L.I and Mountain Rescue in purchasing our calendars directly from them. However readers may be interested in this one from the Friends of the Lake District....At only £8.00 it offers good value for money and you will know that the monies raised will go to the the only charity wholly dedicated to protecting Cumbria's landscape for the future. Just clicking on the picture will take you to the website.

Next Walk:      15th August 2011 - Lake District - High Dam from Finsthwaite & a visit to Fell Foot.

Last Walk:     9th August 2011 - Lake District - A Great Langdale walkabout
