After yesterdays trudge over the wet tussocky ground of Blea Moor my knees were a bit on the tender side and I wasn't too bothered about a walk at all. However it was such a splendid morning that we gave our Daughter-in-law a call to see if she they fancied a short walk around Sunderland Point. Our son was working but Lana and the two girls wanted to come. Sophie who accompanied us on my 100th walk of 2011 was otherwise engaged at the stables.

Vehicular access to Sunderland is via a tidal road so it would be wise to check the tide times before setting off or your trip could end like this.........OAP's rescued from flooded road.  which happened just over a week after our visit.

Looking over the River Lune to Clougha Pike.

I think these may be moored here for the summer or perhaps from the marina at Glasson Dock.

First Terrace, Sunderland Point.

Meanwhile the gang had decided not to wait for me and had set off along the road to Second Terrace. Harvey the brain-dead boxer would have loved to be off the lead but as it may have resulted in him disappearing into the muddy river bed Svetlana (Lana) decided to keep hold of him. Nicole is holding on to Edith and Renee is probably talking her head off.

Second Terrace, Sunderland Point.  It's going to be an hard day to get a group picture. Lana & Harvey are way out in front now and this group are dawdling there way along.

Renee, Nicole and Nan.

Looking back to the Old Hall, the last building along the shore. From here the path is rougher.

Looking over the river to Clougha.

Heading towards the point.

A look back along the river as we approach the point.

Coastal erosion at Sunderland Point. Harvey is laid in a pool to cool off.

Looking across the river to Plover Scar lighthouse.

The Power Stations at Heysham come into view as we round the point onto its seaward shore.

Looking over the bay towards Barrow. It's hard to pick things out with being at sea level but I can see the big building of the Devonshire Dock where the nuclear submarines are built.

Chill time.

Nicole.....always a smile....she started school on the 14th September and loves it.

After a short break we made our way along the shore-side which is more grassy.

Despite it being a gorgeous morning the views to the Lakes were spoilt a little by a bit of cloud.

All the ladies and Harvey.

And some old geezer spoils the picture!

It's only a couple of hundred yards from one side to the other here.

Harvey takes water on board as we approach the grave.

Nicole at Sambo's Grave.

The "visitor box" is looking a little worse for wear and the visitor book is full.....anybody going that way soon?

It's around noon and the Isle of Man ferry is just coming towards Heysham Harbour with the wind farm off Walney Island behind. The warm air rising from the sands however is distorting the picture.

From the grave we returned to First Terrace via The Lane.

Back to the car and let's go for a drink.

A short drive to Overton and The Globe..

.....where Nicole at least had something to amuse her.

The Calendar season is upon us again. I have had a number of enquiries as to whether I will be producing a calendar this year. Once again the answer is no as I have neither the inclination to do so, or to make money out of what I enjoy. We normally support the R.N.L.I and Mountain Rescue in purchasing our calendars directly from them. However readers may be interested in this one from the Friends of the Lake District....At only £8.00 it offers good value for money and you will know that the monies raised will go to the the only charity wholly dedicated to protecting Cumbria's landscape for the future. Just clicking on the picture will take you to the website.

Next Walk:      23rd August 2011 - Lake District - Loughrigg with " Met -Man Mooney"

Last Walk:       21st August 2011 - Yorkshire Dales (W) - A bleak Blea Moor
