We had been kept in during the morning waiting for a plumber to arrive to change the syphon on the toilet. Because the said toilet was of the close-coupled type and the arthritic fingers don't always do as my brain tells them I didn't fancy doing it myself. Anyway the plumber arrived about 13:30hrs and was finished around 14:30hrs. It was a lovely afternoon so we decided to nip to Sunderland Point for this short walk.
Having checked the tide tables we knew there was no problem and we parked in our usual spot on the shore near the toilets. We set off towards First Terrace with a view across the River Lune towards Clough Pike.
It was a lovely afternoon with nice blue skies. Thinking this side of the walk may be in the shade if we went to the West Shore first we decided to stay on the river side for the outward leg.
The whitebait nets are just about to ebb out of water.
However how many times I visit this wonderful place the eyes never tire of these views.
Looking over to the hills of Bowland from Second Terrace.
Looking back along Second Terrace.
A look back to the Old Hall as we now drop down onto the shore.
Approaching the point and a view across the Lune to Crook Farm with the Bowland Hills behind.
A look back towards the Old Hall.
The sun is getting lower now as we look towards Plover lighthouse and the Fylde Coast.
Rounding the point.
Now we are on seaward side of the point with my old workplace ahead.
A big zoom and hand held. There's a lovely view from the top on a clear day.
Behind us the sky is starting to change colour as the sun gets lower to the horizon....
....and ahead the shore seems to be doing the same as we near the grave.
Samboo's Grave which over time as been shortened to Sambo is as tidy as ever....
.....and in the shelter of the wall a small patch of snowdrops.
It was such a pleasant afternoon we decided to have a sit down on a bench near the grave and were soon joined by local fisherman Trevor Owen who lives on First Terrace. We have both known Trevor and his wife for many years and we spent a while catching up and watching the sky change.
I don't possess any of those fancy filters that cut out glare but even without the setting sun was lovely to see.
The shore and Power Station were starting to change colour as Black Combe across the bay appeared through the haze. It would have been nice to linger a wee bit longer but I wanted to get back to the other side so we set off along The Lane...
....with just a couple of short stops along the way...
...to admire the sky.
Back at First Terrace and I wanted to get these shots which go well with the sunrise one from mid December.
