It wasn't the brightest of days but I just wanted to get out somewhere for a bit of a walk so I persuaded Edith that a short walk at Arnside would be a good idea. As we set off I'm not sure that I even believed myself, there was a very cool breeze blowing right up the estuary and I spent most of the time coughing and spluttering. However it eventually passed and in the end enjoyed getting out even if it was only for a short while.

Route Map

There was a fair bit of cloud about when we parked up on the promenade at Arnside but the day was fine and views fairly clear.

We parked at the far end of the promenade today near Ashmeadow House...

...which we passed by as we started our walk down the estuary.

The sun was making brief appearances but our side of the estuary was in the shade.

Looking down the river from the Coastguard Station. There as a nippy breeze right in our faces which doesn't help with my C.O.P.D.

A brief look back reveals nowt too exciting....

.....so onwards we go. There is no problem with the tides today but if you're walking down this way and aren't sure....

....there is a path up from the shore near the boat storage are leading into a field which comes back down on the beach at New Barns.

We carried on along the shore towards New Barns.

Edith's in a hurry, hoping that as we turn into New Barns Bay we will get shelter from the wind.

Grange and Hampsfell across the estuary.

A look back.

Looking across New Barn's Bay which we walked around....

....and down towards the caravan park.

Now sheltered from the cool breeze my coughing and spluttering had ceased so we decided to carry on for a short while along the shore...

....passing by the " Bob In " cafe which was closed today.

We followed the shore path for a while with views over to Hampsfell where they appeared to be catching a light shower....

...until we reached this point where once again we caught the breeze and beat an hasty retreat.

A look back up the river as we made our way back.

Back at New Barns with Arnside Knott ahead of us. I'm sure Edith thought I had an hidden agenda to include the Knott but even this simple climb was beyond me today.

We took the single-track lane up from New Barns and found a seat in the sun on which to enjoy our coffee.

Suitably refreshed we carried on back towards Arnside..

...passing by the Youth Hostel....

....before dropping back down into Arnside and the car.
