A bit of a mixed bag today. The walk itself was a delight as is any walk in the valleys of Great & Little Langdale and the weather was unbelievably good. However I was having problems with the Osteo-Arthritis in my neck and as we approached Slater's Bridge I started getting dizzy spells which I could see was causing Edith some concern. However after rest we were able to continue but seeing how I was worrying Edith upset me and if the problem persists may make me have a rethink on our walking.
Today's route.
A early start gave us time to stop off at Waterhead for a few pictures. It was a fine morning but a bit hazy.
Having moved on to Elterwater we left the car in the NT car park near the bridge.
Looking over to the Spedding Crag - Dow Bank - Huntingstile Crag ridge as we make our way to Elter Water.
Hazy Loughrigg.
A peaceful Creat Langdale Beck.
Hazy Elter Water morning.
Reflecting on Lingmoor....
...and on the Langdale Pikes.
Wetherlam and Swirl How across the River Brathay as we follow it downstream.
It is a truly gorgeous morning and already it is getting warm.
A quick peek at Skelwith Force before retracing our steps a few yards to....
...cross the fairly new footbridge which avoids road walking at Skelwith Bridge.
Passing by Park House.
Our way ahead towards Park Farm.
Loughrigg across the valley.
Looking over Hammerscar towards Seat Sandal, Great Rigg & Fairfield.
Passing through Park Farm.
Starting the descent through the woods to Colwith Bridge....
...and then after crossing the road a delightful woodland walk leading us to....
Colwith Force.
From Colwith Force we carried on along the Cumbria Way to reach High Park.
It was around this point that I started to feel unwell. Nothing too serious just a bit of "Fuzzyness" (my word) similar to how you feel if bending right over and then straightening up quickly.
Stops were more frequent than normal now but with plenty to see this was no hardship.
Eventually we reached the delightful Slater Bridge, a visit to Cathedral Cave having been cancelled in the circumstances, which we found unoccupied.
Another of the bridge from the other side before I found a grassy knoll to plonk myself down on for a short while. I could see that Edith was worried about me and she did offer to walk back to Elterwater for the car and bring it to the Three Shires for me but I had noticed that the road between Elterwater and Little Langdale was closed for repairs when we set off so declined the offer knowing how she hates driving around the lanes.
After a while I said that I was OK to make our way back and once again there were plenty of stops.
Little Langdale Tarn.
Lingmoor.
One of Lakeland's gems.
Slowly but surely we made our way to Dale End...
...and in a short while reached the top of the track back over into Great Langdale.
All downhill now and feeling like a two-year old....well nearly!
And finally back to a busy Elterwater.
