This was a bit of a mixed up day for me. After a few days without a walk I was starting to feel better with the aches and pains easing. With a lovely day promised we decided to try to do this walk and the walk itself was as always on the Knott a delight. However I finished the walk in considerable pain and with the thought in my head that this might even be a good time to bow out of the website and the time involved in getting it ready. Anyway enough of that for now, here are the pictures from the day, hope you enjoy them.
Route
We parked on the promenade at Arnside near the viaduct on a fine & sunny morning...
....to make our way along the shore down the estuary.
On a clear morning the fells of Lakeland were visible behind AW's OFL of Whitbarrow.
A couple of anglers were trying their luck....
...but about 100 yards away from them this chappie seemed to be doing better. We watched it for a while and it caught a couple of small flounders....
...before deciding it didn't like having an audience for breakfast and flew off.
We continued down the estuary....
....with views over to Grange and Hampsfell...
...and ahead of us New Barns.
A look back to Whitbarrow as we arrive at New Barns.
At New Barns we left the shore...
..to take the path...
..up through Copridding Wood..
..with views across the estuary...
..until we reached the two seats near the viewpoint with views over Heathwaite..
...and down the bay to home.
We hadn't been sat too long when we were joined by an old friend. "Wally" instantly recognised Edith and the association with biscuits was made.
Fortunately Edith had topped up her stock before leaving home and Wally soon made inroads into them.
" You've had enough!" and even a sorrowful look doesn't work.
After a short break we made our way to the viewpoint were the views were far reaching down the bay...
...over Heathwaite to Humphrey Head and the Furness Peninsula.
Over New Barns and the estuary to Grange and Hampsfell.
Distant Coniston Fells over Lindale.
A wide view looking northwards.
We made our way to the summit seat which had been taken over by a group of youngsters with their schoolteachers.
We made our way to the top of Red Hills for the views..
...but by now Edith's mind was on other things. Below us we could see the Highland cattle and she was in a hurry to get there..
I had time for a few hurried snaps..
...before we started to descend...
Ingleborough to the east.
A close up of the Helvellyn and Fairfield fells.
We seem to be making an habit of interrupting meal times today!!
Nearly there!
"Any carrots ?"
One of the youngsters.
Then a big surprise.
I'm not sure how old the calve is but it can only be a day or three. The owner hasn't got around to tagging it yet.
The mother is always first in the queue for the carrots....
Another of the youngsters. It took some time to drag Edith away today!!!!
Eventually we made our way back down towards the shore passing this little fella as we went.
Down the lane to the shore....
...and a visit to see our friend Barry at the cafe...
....before returning to the car.
